5 Things To Do Before You Reopen
By now, gyms across the country have been closed due to COVID-19. With these gym restrictions being made, it is important to take action now to best utilize this time. These five tips will help you be productive during this downtime so that when they open up again, you will be ready!
- FOCUS ON GYM EQUIPMENT – During this time period, focus on gym equipment. Run maintenance checks on all your equipment. No matter the size, run simple checks on the equipment to make sure everything is functioning properly. If financially possible, replace equipment that is run down or broken. In addition, use this time to make sure your equipment is sanitized and clean.
- IMPROVE YOUR SPACE – Take a look at your gym from the eyes of your members. What is the first thing they see when they walk through the doors? Is it a bland space with chipping paint on the walls? Or is it a bright, welcoming front desk, with your logo front and center? Use this time to change up the walls. Use new paint, wallpaper, posters, or bulletin boards. Another part of improving your space could be rearranging gym equipment to better the user experience for your members.
- UPDATE YOUR WEBSITE – Your website is one of the most important parts of building your online community and is a touchpoint for member engagement. Here are a few website ideas and tips:
- Keep your website up to date with regular fresh content.
- Make it user friendly and MOBILE friendly. It should be easy to navigate on any device.
- Clearly explain on your website what is unique about your gym and what you offer.
- Your website needs to be SEO optimized for your city or region so when potential gym members are searching for “gym in *your city*” they find yours.
- Add a common questions and answers section. In addition to FAQs, add a review section. Demonstrating creditability on your website is a quick way to win over visitors.
- SOLICIT MEMBER FEEDBACK – This is a great time to reach out to members and gather feedback for insights of how you can improve your gym. Ask questions such as:
- How clean was our facility?
- How likely are you to return to our gym when we reopen?
- Are there classes or class times we don’t offer you would be interested in?
- What are your favorite things about our gym?
- What improvements would you like to see us make?
- KEEP COMMUNICATION WITH MEMBERS – Help your members feel like they are part of a community. The relationship between you and your members continues outside of the gym whether by sending out emails, texts, or social media updates. Keep them updated on what you are doing while the gyms are closed. Consider setting up classes that they can do from home. Find a way to live stream classes through platforms like zoom.com.
