Key Takeaways From Gyms Reopening
Recently, it was reported that gyms in Northern Utah could cautiously reopen. Similarly, we have seen in certain countries throughout the world a slow reopening in less populated communities.
As these markets are the first to return to a new normal it is important to pay attention to some of the restrictions or precautions they are taking to ensure the health and safety of their staff and fitness communities.
Here are some of the key takeaways we have noticed that we think you should consider.
1: Restricting Staff – not only are some of these locations limiting the number of staff they have but more importantly they are ensuring that if their staff has symptoms of any kind of illness that they are not working.
2: Screenings – employees, patrons, and customers are being screened before coming in. We have seen varying levels of this. Some are requiring a clean bill of health from their doctors and others are taking tempatures before entering. If anyone is showing any symptoms they are not allowed in the gym.
3: Restricting Members – A common trend we have seen is the restriction of how many people are actually permitted into the gym at one time. Depending on the size some gyms are simply saying only a certain number can be in the gym at a time OR some are restricting it based on sq ft. Limiting it to one member for every 100 to 200 square feet.
4: Restricting Amenities and Areas of the Gym – almost every gym we have seen reopen is not fully reopen. There are still restrictions on certain areas such as the group training area, locker rooms, group fitness areas, etc. At least for the first initial weeks most are not allowing their members or staff to use them. In addition, these first gyms are not allowing guest of any kind but only good standing members.
5: Manditory Cleanliness – Though this was hopefully the case in most gyms before, we are seeing strict cleanliness policies with reopenings. Gyms are ensuring that facilities are disinfected morning and night by their staff. Similarily, they are requiring members sanitize all equipment after use.
We understand that this is an ongoing and ever changing event. We will continue monitoring all the latest developments and will keep you posted on the best pratices and resources for your gym.
